Southern Tanzania Safari has many conservation areas which have not got enough exposure and people do not know much about it. This 9 days lodge safari will give you a chance to visit those areas. You can explore Mikumi, Udzungwa and Ruaha national parks and also Selous game reserve on safari vehicle, on foot, and by boat. You will get the chance to meet local people and know more about the culture of Africa. Southern Tanzania tour has long driving distances, hence to limit the traveling time you get a chance to explore this safari by road as well as in the air.
A Holiday trip to Dar Es Salaam-Mikumi will start in the morning. On the first day of your Tanzania Safari tours, the guide will give you a short briefing about the place at the hotel before starting the journey. It is approximately 5 hours journey by road to reach Mikumi national park. The roads are well constructed. You will spend 2 days there, in the open area and witness wildlife in abundance. The mkaat floodplain is the center of attraction in Mikumi national park. You can have a close encounter with giraffe, lion, zebra, buffalo, and elephants. The stay will be adventurous on Vuma hill in tents with mouth-watering dinner.
Day 3 of Tanzania safari tours is full of walking as you will go for trekking in the beautiful Udzungwa mountain national park. It is one of 34 world biodiversity hotspots. The guide will meet you at the entrance gate of the national park after the breakfast. The beautiful rainforest is a treat to watch. The hiking will give you an experience of a lifetime there are many tall trees as long as 30m. You can get to see different reptiles, 400 species of birds, colorful butterflies and many other animals. One of the most endangered primates like Udzungwa red colobus and Sanjemangabey live here. You can find 12 different species of primates in this rainforest.
After your first meal of the day at Vuma hill, you will head to Iringa in the southwest. During the drive, you can enjoy the scenic valley of the great Ruaha river. You can see beautiful baobabs trees which adds to the beauty of the valley. There will be an overnight stay at Kisolanza farm and guesthouse where the Ghaui family has grown vegetables and tobacco. They have done beautiful flower plantation which is worth seeing. You have to drive 40 km south of Iringa to reach there. They have been doing it for more than 5 decades now. Once you reach there in the afternoon you can explore the farm. You will love to have fresh farm products at dinner. The overnight stay in the rustic cottage at the farm will give you an awesome experience to relish the moments of Tanzania safari tours.
You need to start in the early morning to take a drive to the Ruaha national park. If you want to shop in the local market you can ask your guide to stop at Iringa. You will then head to Tandala tented camp through small villages where there is an arrangement for an overnight stay for 2 nights. You can enjoy the game drive in the Ruaha national park. There are about 10000 elephants, over 570 species of birds in the rugged beauty of Ruaha national park. You will find kudus which are famous. You might get a rare sighting of buffaloes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, rare wild dogs, sable antelopes, giraffes, zebras, warthogs, and the huge roan antelope. After an exciting tour, you will return to Tandala tented camp on the outskirts of the national park before dinner.
You will get to do some more game viewing in the Ruaha national park. It is the largest park in Tanzania, so you may not find many other vehicles around you. It forms a border between Africa’s eastern and southern eco-system. There are animals which you will particularly find here. You won’t find them in North Africa. As water is the primary source of living for any wildlife, the great Ruaha river is a blessing to the living creatures of the park. The Ruaha river is a home to many crocodiles and hippos. During dry season you will get a beautiful view of animals meeting around the water sources in the park. Whereas in the wet season you can find birds and flowers in abundance. After a spectacular safari day, you will return to the camp before the sun sets.
After a healthy breakfast, you can wear your spikes as we will take you on the last game drive in the Ruaha national park. During the late morning, the guide will drop you at the Ruaha airstrip inside the park. You will take airway to the Selous game reserve which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After you land at a small airstrip the driver of the Rufiji river camp will come and pick you. He will take you to the camp where you will get a hot and delicious lunch at the camp. You will join a planned safari activity post lunch and will return in the evening before dinner. You can enjoy tenting at Rufiji river camp under the sky at night.
Selous game reserve is a remote place which is away from the crowd. The development has not yet taken place. It is the largest wildlife conservation area in Africa. The total area along with Mikumi and Udzungwa national park which are neighboring parks is as big as Switzerland. It is full of miombo woodlands, grasslands, forests, and swamps. You can find many wild animals like elephants, black rhinos, cheetahs, giraffes, hippos, and crocodiles. There are many marshes and lagoons along the Rufiji river which drive animals to take bath and to quench their thirst. If you are keen to see birds, you can find 350 different species of birds. It is a great chance for you to feel the beauty of the spotless wilderness of the region on safari vehicle, boat, and foot.
After a mouth-watering breakfast we will give you our final service by dropping you safely at the airstrip. You can take your flight to Dar Es Salam from there.
